Remember GoButler? That data broker required Kanary and other services to fight for months to remove data, ultimately escalating to the hosting provider. Well, there are a couple of other players in the data broker game that have also both recently gone offline: GladiKnow and Spytox.

Who were GladiKnow and Spytox?

Both GladiKnow and Spytox, now defunct data brokers, operated in the controversial space of collecting and selling user data. While their business models certainly raised eyebrows within the privacy community, they distinguished themselves from many of their peers by demonstrating a degree of user accountability. Unlike some data brokers who make user data removal a near-impossible feat, GladiKnow and Spytox were known for being relatively responsive to user requests for data removal. This responsiveness, while potentially driven by legal obligations rather than genuine privacy concerns, still set them apart in the data broker landscape.

A Step in the Right Direction, But Still a Long Way to Go

It's important to note that neither GladiKnow nor Spytox were privacy champions. Data brokers, by their very nature, operate in a gray area when it comes to user privacy.
